December 2022 - Alpine Coaster Contest!

Hey everyone! A new coaster type was recently added to the game, which makes this a perfect opportunity to see people build it in a contest! I am of course talking about the alpine coaster! An alpine coaster is a very unique type of coaster, where guests ride in small vehicles along a track where guests have some control over the speed! Every guest in the game will have a certain speed at which they will ride the coaster, so you will probably have to somehow space out the trains so the ride doesn't get a big traffic jam somewhere along the track! These coasters are typically found in mountainous landscapes, as they will typically follow the terrain very closely!

November 2022 - Looping Coaster Contest!

Hey everyone! A coaster type that is often used in scenarios is the looping coaster! It is a coaster type that is based on coasters that were designed by Schwarzkopf, and a lot of them can still be found in parks or traveling around to fairs. There are many different designs for these coasters: There's the well known shuttle loop model, where the trains get launched and travel forwards and backwards through a loop. There's also a Katapult model, where the trains travel backwards and forwards through a circular track with a loop in it. There's also models that look more like traditional coasters with a complete circuit, either with or without loops. Loops are typically the only inversions you will find on these coasters!

October 2022 - Powered Coaster Contest!

Hey everyone! A coaster type that's often overlooked in RCT2 is the powered coaster! A powered coaster is a coaster type which you can find in many real parks, where the train is propelled by motors inside the vehicles! You can usually recognize these coasters quite easily, because most of the time they have contacts on the track for the coaster to take electricity from, and usually there's a friction track on top of the track for a wheel to grip on to. Also, their layouts usually don't have any big hills, but usually consist of shallow slopes and helixes. Some of these rides, like Dragen at Legoland Billund also have a dark ride section!

Git Gud 094 - Synchronizing rides that are not next to each other!

Hey everyone!
In the original RCT2 you could only synchronize rides that were next to each other. In OpenRCT2 this range has been increased so rides that are several tiles away from each other can also be synchronized. However, using some tricks it is now also possible to synchronize rides that are on opposite ends of the map! To do this, you should first build both of the rides which you want to be synchronized. Then when they are both done, go into the Tile Inspector and copy the front piece of the first ride, and paste it next to the other ride. Then do the same for the other ride. You can then make these station pieces invisible. The rides should now be synchronized when you turn on the option in the settings! The video below will show you how to do it!

Git Gud 092 - Turning your vehicles into green squares!

Hey everyone!
The heartline twister has an Upper Transfer and a Lower Transfer element that can be used to switch between forward and backward facing cars. This element actually also works on other rollercoasters, and changes the vehicles into an alternate vehicle. For example if you run a Twister train through it, the nose part of the vehicle will be changed into a vehicle with seats, and all the vehicles with seats will be turned into nose parts. However, if you run a train through it which has only one vehicle type, like the floorless rollercoaster train, all the vehicles will be turned into little green squares which use the grass color. These green squares can be used for many cool tricks!

Git Gud 089 - Making a Multi-Dimension Rollercoaster!

Hey everyone!
One of the rides that was added to the game in RCT2 was the multi-dimension coaster. Only a few of these exist in the world, and they are pretty intense rides! What's special about a multi-dimension coaster is that their seats are to the side of the track, and they can rotate around their axis! The trains can run either on top of the track or below the track, and by rotating the seats you can let the guests either face backwards or forwards. You can even make them face upwards or downwards if you want to! The amount of different track elements you can use on this type of coaster is quite limited, but by applying the track elements that are available in clever ways, you can make really nice track layouts!

Hey everyone!
OpenRCT2 allows you to give every ride every available operating mode if you enable a cheat. This can give some really funny results if you use those operating modes on rides that were not made for them. One such fun combinations is using the operating modes for the top spin, like Berserk mode or Beginner mode, on tracked rides like a steeplechase or a virginia reel. Instead of moving through the track layout, the vehicles will just stay in place and rock back and forth! This will allow you to add some really compact but fun rides to fill up some small spaces you have left in your park or your mall, but they can also work really nicely as some moving scenery!

Hey everyone!
Queue paths normally don't allow junctions, you are only supposed to build them as path tiles that connect on two sides. Some interesting things happen when you connect more than two sides on a queue path tile, however! When you go into the Tile Inspector and select a queue path piece, just like with other paths you can set the edges that you want to be connected. When you select more than two edges, the queue path tile will turn invisible, because there is no sprite for a queue path that connects on three sides. When this path tile is above the ground however, the supports for this invisible piece will still show! These supports have a nice texture that can look great in some situations!

Hey everyone!
Some real rollercoasters have a chainlift that pulls up a train, and then releases it backwards. In OpenRCT2, it is also possible to make a track that has this behavior! In order to do this, a small piece of chainlift is built on a hill. Right after this chainlift, the track is merged with a dinghy slide so the train gets pulled onto the dinghy slide track. Lower down on the track, the dinghy slide continues, but with a fully enclosed tube style track which bypasses the chainlift. After the chainlift has been bypassed, the dinghy slide merges with the coaster again with a normal open track. The video below does a better job at explaining this trick! It's a fun trick to use for a shuttle coaster, it sadly does not work for a reverse-incline launched shuttle coaster though as forward chainlifts don't work in this mode.

Hey everyone!
A question I get very often is how to fix a deleted surface tile. When playing around with the tile inspector it is very easy to accidentally remove a surface tile, or make on invisible. This can often lead to some quite spectacular glitching, but the good news is that it is very easy to fix! If you have deleted a surface tile, you can simply copy a surface element from a neighboring tile, then navigate to the broken tile using the x and y controls in the tile inspector, and then paste it in place! If you have accidentally made a surface tile invisible by using a corrupt element on it, you can simply navigate to the tile using the coordinate controls in tile inspector, and remove the corrupt element!
