In OpenRCT2, it is actually possible to expand or shrink your map in the middle of your game! In order to expand or shrink your map, first enable sandbox mode in the cheat menu. When you have done that, you should be able to change the size of your map in the map menu, just like you would be able to in the scenario editor! The map will only expand on two sides of the map however, so you should take this into account when you first make your map. It would be a shame if your map expanded in the direction where your park entrance is! Also take into account that if you shrink your map while there are rides in the area that gets removed, your game will probably crash!
