Oceânica is a marine resort in the coastal state of Bahia that thrived in the 30s & 40s. It was once home to the world’s largest roller coaster, a perk reserved for resort members and guests of the Hotel Navegante. After decades of decline and neglect, the local government took ownership and performed a multi-stage effort to restore and revive Oceânica. To the disappointment of many, the coaster was declared too dilapidated and was demolished. However, the continued popularity of the resort allowed the city to invest in Atlantis, a brand new, massive wooden coaster. Atlantis pays homage to the original marquee attraction, but on an even bigger scale and now open to everyone.
