My plot is based on a trilogy of books from the 90's called Mars Trilogy, written by Kim Stanley Robinson. The books document mankind's colonisation and terraforming of Mars of a period of 200 years. During that time the appearance of the planet changes from red to green to blue, hence the book titles… Red Mars, Green Mars and Blue Mars. Hop on a hovercraft to explore the landscape and discover the epic story that probably no one has ever heard of… 🙂

You don't have to read the next bit unless you're really interested…

Red Mars: The “First Hundred” scientists and engineers arrive on Mars aboard the Ares spaceship, built in orbit from abandoned launch units and such. They begin building the first make-shack settlements. The story focuses on survival, politics, and a huge ideological conflict: should Mars stay untouched (“Reds”) or be terraformed into a living world (“Greens”)? Tensions with Earth corporations eventually lead to revolution.

Green Mars: Mars is partially terraformed, with thicker atmosphere, early ecosystems, and growing cities built into the mountains to maintain warmth and security. The colonists fight for independence from Earth while trying to create a new society that avoids Earth’s environmental and political failures.

Blue Mars: Mars becomes increasingly Earth-like, with oceans, weather, and a mature civilisation. The story shifts toward questions of governance, longevity, identity, and what kind of future humanity should build across the solar system.
