This is a true story.

It’s 1981. Chris Sawyer is still a fresh faced young academic, studying Computer Science in Glasgow. He drinks a cool refreshing and restoring Irn Bru as he pulls an all-nighter again writing an essay about how Z80 machine code is the future of gaming. The world-changing idea that is Rollercoaster Tycoon is barely a glimmer in his eye yet, in this cruel world devoid of isometric gameplay.

He sighs, defeated, slips on his Replay white leather Polys and double knots the laces…this guy is taking no chances on those icy Glaswegian streets. He heads on down to the late night arcade because it’s the 80’s and cool shit like that still exists. As he enters he’s met with an unfamiliar site… a new game… some amphibian based odyssey with the deliciously simple premise of traveling from point A to point B without being suddenly and brutally crushed into the worlds least edible smoothie.

He puts his money in the slot and grabs the joystick with a strange sense of purpose. The rules are simple…

• 10 points for each step.
• 50 points for every frog arrived home safely.
• 1000 points for saving frogs into five homes.
• Plus bonus of 10 points for every remaining second.

He eyes the Lilly-pad on the horizon and begins…
