Stage 1
Rise and shine, welcome back to Sunny Side Up on DKMP 98.7 where we bring you local news and try to make it positive so you start your day off right! I’m your host Mike Riffone. Along with families waking up to gift puppies on their front step (a great opportunity for your kids to learn some responsibility!), our latest breaking news is that the city of Cordis is making the decision to close down access to Beaver Island. For those unaware, this island was artificially created in 1947 after the war to regrow lost crops and as an arboretum to purify the air again. Eventually it was redesigned as a National Park for you to forget about the concerns of everyday life and get lost in nature. Unfortunately as technology has advanced to allow individuals to enjoy nature through VR, foot traffic has decreased and has made the cost of upkeep unattractive to our city officials. Ferries are now running on a three hour schedule, so you wouldn’t want to forget to pack a lunch! On the bright side, due to public protest of the closure, the city is holding an auction for any individual to purchase the land, as long as it remains available to the citizens.

Enter our two main contenders:

Bill Durr, an enterprising young man who hopes to turn our island into a gated community resort-the city would certainly love the property tax coming from that! Weekend trip across the lake, anyone?

Freddy Zoolius, a man certainly known to our community, given that his relative Jonathan was a founding father of our city. Our Freddy went in a different direction- an amusement park! Not only would this increase traffic to the island, the city would get a cut of the profits to cushion their budget; has anyone told the city about all the potholes on Main St?

What would the folks of Cordis like? An occasional weekend all-inclusive getaway, or years of family fun? Vote on our website!

That’s all for now, tune in next week for the results!

Have a great day, and keep that glass half full!

Stage 2
Rise and shine, welcome back to Sunny Side Up on DKMP 98.7 where we bring you local news and try to make it positive so you start your day off right! I’m your host Mike Riffone. Today we’re turning the clock back to one year ago when the winner was announced for the rights to Beaver Island: to tell us more about it, we have our winner on air day. Take it away, Freddy!

Freddy: Thanks, Mike. It’s definitely been a rollercoaster of a year, with ups and downs and unexpected twists, but things are now on the up and up, like our first coaster, Beavertail, a homage to the island!

Mike: I like what you did there, Freddy. Can you tell us about your vision for the island, and any teasers for upcoming attractions? I have heard rumbles about a crew laying some ground work for a water ride.

Freddy: I don’t want to give too much away but yes, we are working on a new themed area with the main feature being a water ride. We have also hired top chef, Lynne Guinni, who will be in charge of a fresh new menu for our first official restaurant on the island.

Mike: Now that’s a vision for Beaver Island! With a few minutes left, is there anything else you want our listeners to know about your exciting project?

Freddy: I definitely have some exciting prospects for the future. Some developments I’m sure the lovely people of Cordis would be happy to know our monumental lighthouse has been restored and converted into a functional ice cream shop! People of Cordis are still able to walk the trails of Beaver Island at no cost, and can now finish their trip with some refreshing ice cream.

Mike: Thank you Freddy for coming on today and sharing some info about Beaver Island Park.

Freddy: Thanks for having me on today, Mike!

Alright listeners, hopefully you get to visit this park in the near future, there seems to be many exciting developments.
Have a great day, and keep that glass half full!

Stage 3
Rise and shine, welcome back to Sunny Side Up on DKMP 98.7 where we bring you local news and try to make it positive so you start your day off right! I’m your host Mike Riffone. Today, we bring you the hot new take: best pets- puppies, or tarantulas? The answer might surprise you! Studies show that more limbs equals more-

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP

-Uh…more on that later. I have just received breaking news that on Beaver Island, an individual has been reported fatally injured crossing a bridge that collapsed on the island. Authorities have seadoo’d over to the island and have closed off the area. The city has been unavailable for a comment, but Freddy Zoolius just released a statement to Cordis Now! “We are closing the park and the island temporarily to investigate the cause and ensure utmost safety for our guests. I am deeply saddened by this tragic event and will be reaching out to the family.” Details will follow as appropriate.

…We’re going to take a quick break, everyone. Stay tuned, and we’ll convince you why a tarantula is your next go to pet.

Keep that glass half full, and stay safe, folks.

Stage 4
Welcome back to DKMP 98.7! Good morning listeners, I am Tira Misu, part time talk show host and baker enthusiast. Mike Riffone is out with a cold today, so I will be hosting “Knead it to Rise & Shine”. The way this show works is I bake the goods, and our guests spill the tea. Today we have a no-bake peanut butter cheesecake with a maple crust and Freddy Zoolius, here to give us updates since the tragic accident eight months ago at Beaver Island. Take a bite Freddy, then give our listeners a sound bite.

Freddy: Oh wow, this is so creamy, and that crust…” (clears throat) “Right, well, the bridge incident with Rebma H has been covered in the news many times so I won’t go into detail. The unfortunate accident has been investigated and faulty supports were found to be the cause. I want to assure all of your listeners that all of our bridges and supports have been reassessed and upgraded to maximize their stability, because your safety is our utmost concern. In fact, I’ve hired a team of security officers to patrol the park to make sure any concerns are met as quickly as possible.

Tyra: I’m sure our listeners are relieved to hear that. Are there any other updates on the park?

Freddy: Thanks for asking, Tyra. I do have an exciting update for our park: “Reopening Day” is next weekend and we’re introducing our new roller coaster, “Thrasher”. Feel safe with modern supports but feel the thrill of the twists and turns it provides. More and more is coming to Beaver Island Park every year, make sure to visit to see what’s new and exciting!

Tyra: Thanks Freddy, I’m sure folks are chomping at the bit for the reopening, you heard the news here first, everyone! That’s all our time for today, stay sweet!

Stage 5
Rise and shine, welcome back to Sunny Side Up on DKMP 98.7 where we bring you local news and try to make it positive so you start your day off right! I’m your host Mike Riffone.

Our new segment “What’d you get up to this weekend?”, started last week to encourage local outings and exploration. Our top answers this week were 3) Cordis Conservation Area for waterfall hikes and wildlife spotting, 2) Cordis Natural History Museum (admission is buy one get one free!), and 1) Beaver Island Park! No surprise there, as last week two brand new rides opened up: Cloudbreaker and Tarzan’s Journey.

Yours truly was out there with everyone else trying to get the new high score on Tarzan’s Journey, the Jungle trek shooting adventure. I’d like our listeners to get out there and try to beat the current #1…Me! Try to let me have my glory for at least a day, alright everyone?

Anyway, keep submitting your answers to “What’d you get up to last weekend?”, so we can all learn what the beautiful city of Cordis has to offer.

That’s all for now, keep that glass half full!

Stage 6
Welcome back to the afternoon icing on DKMP 98.7. I am Tyra Misu, part time talk show host and baker enthusiast. The way this show works is I bake the goods, and our guests spill the tea. Today we have red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing and Shane Lieft, renowned theme park critic, here to talk about his last trip to Beaver Island Park.

Shane: Thanks for having me on the show Tyra! These cupcakes are to die for. As for my trip to Beaver Island Park I am quite impressed with how the park has taken shape over the last few years. The latest coaster Banana Rama easily goes into my top 10 all time coasters, it is such a smooth ride.

Tyra: I haven’t been on Banana Rama yet, I will definitely have to make a trip over to the park. Our listeners would like to know if you have any insights on what might be coming next to Beaver Island park?

Shane: The biggest downside to the park in my opinion is trying to get to and from the park via the ferries. Though it did look like park management has been working on removing the playground near the entrance, maybe that is a sign of something new to come.

Tyra: Interesting, there have been rumblings around the town of a bridge being installed to the island to make it easier for park-goers to get over to the island.

Shane: That could make a lot of sense, possibly a new, larger entrance to the park will be constructed as well. All just speculation at this point though.

Tyra: That is all the time we have for today, thanks for joining the show Shane during your visit to Cordis.

Shane: Thanks for having me Tyra! These cupcakes were so good, I may have to plan another trip to Cordis to get some more and visit the park again!

Stage 7
(Static) …”Thanks for the segue-way, Mike. This is Duncan Tewer bringing you today’s traffic update. After months of traffic detours on the West side of Bayfront Avenue related to Beaver Island’s sensational bridge construction, I can finally, FINALLY announce that those detours are over! No more two hour commutes into work! No more-(someone clears throat) Uh, right. In other news, the city is redesigning the downtown core’s subway stations, so stay tuned for the next update on Duncan’s Devious Detours!”

“Thanks Duncan! We have been informed that a new entrance to Beaver Island Park has been constructed to access the park from the West side. There are complimentary shuttles to get across the bridge or, alternatively, you can walk across the bridge to gain access to the park. I sure can not wait to take another visit to the park!”

Stage 8
Rise and shine, welcome back to Sunny Side Up on DKMP 98.7 where we bring you local news and try to make it positive so you start your day off right! I’m your host Mike Riffone.
I have some local celebrity news to share with all of our listeners this morning: Freddy Zoolius, of Cordis, is marrying the woman of his dreams, Ginger Schnapps, of Kingsbury, next Saturday. Following the Union of Mr and Mrs Zoolius, they will be blasting off to their long awaited honeymoon. Before they go, however, they’ll be breaking in Beaver Island Park’s newest ride, Checkmate! You can break all the rules of normal chess as you spin and twirl around the board in your tipsy-turvy teacups.
On behalf of all of us here at DKMP 98.7 I would like to wish Freddy and Ginger a long and happy life together!

Stage 9
Rise and shine, welcome back to Sunny Side Up on DKMP 98.7 where we bring you local news and try to make it positive so you start your day off right! I’m your host Mike Riffone.

As the Halloween season approaches, we have a list of some ghoulish activities you can do around Cordis to get in the spooky spirit!

A pumpkin patch adds CGI and animatronics this year to spice things up; a neighbouring corn maze has added apple cider booths and Port-a-Potties inside, as their average finishing time is 6 hours- we recommend blankets and a flashlight if you go in for an evening visit!

Beaver Island is for the first time hosting a “Halloween Spooktacular” until November 1st, with horrifying headliners appearing nightly. This is the perfect time for Beaver Island’s “Mr. Bones’ Doomsday” to open: its free fall sensation will surely bring screams of joy. You can also take a swing on Davy Jones’ Zip-line, aboard the abandoned ship that used to run between the city and the island- let us know if you see any ghosts!

Stay safe, stay sharp, and stay spooky! Have a BOO-tiful day, folks.

Stage 10
Rise and shine, welcome back to Sunny Side Up on DKMP 98.7 where we bring you local news and try to make it positive so you start your day off right! I’m your host Stacy Rio, but you can just call me Stae.

Our little city of Cordis is celebrating a big milestone, so we’re giving our listeners the low down so you can get excited! Beaver Island is celebrating 20 years in operation next month. I have a very special listener who had a big part in DKMP 98.7’s following come to talk to us about what’s new at Good Ol’ BIP: take it away, Mike!

Mike Riffone: Thanks Stae, you’ve really preserved the meaning this channel brings since I stepped down and starting my partnership with Freddy. Over the past few years, we decided we wanted to take our visitors to new heights: Beaver Island is now introducing two new rides: Hummingbird and Seagull Spinners. These rides will lift you up where you belong, and give you a fantastic view of the park. Hummingbird will twist and turn, giving you the full experience of a hummingbird pollinating flowers as it is our longest coaster yet. All park goers get a complimentary ride souvenir with valid park admission for the month of our 20th anniversary celebration! Come check it out to see what these rides offer as well as the selection of souvenirs you can get!

Stae: That’s quite the description! You heard it here folks, explore the wonders of Beaver Island Park as it gears up to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Thanks, Mike!

Stage 11
Rise and shine, welcome back to Sunny Side Up on DKMP 98.7 where we bring you the local news and try to make it positive so you start your day off right. This is your host, Stae Rio.

Today is a very special day for Cordis and its very own citizens, Freddy Zoolius and Mike Riffone. The Rolling Stones magazine has started a spin-off magazine: Rolling Coasters, and instead of artists, they induct famous roller coasters into the hall of fame! Instead of handprints, they’ve been taking “unnecessary” pieces of the coaster off to “cement” their place in history.
Today, Freddy Zoolius will take a piece of Banana Rama where it will lay beside steel coaster legends like Velocicoaster, Kingda Ka, Maverick, and Space Mountain. Congratulations, Freddy & Mike, we are so proud of you! We love the money -I mean happiness- you bring to the city!

On the heels of this news Beaver Island is also announcing multiple new rides! Jungle Passage is a family friendly coaster designed to mimic the twists and turns a monkey makes leaping from tree to tree. Firecracker will make you (and your stomach!) feel like you’re blasting off with its antigravity ride design. Too intense? Consider Seaside Swings instead, a gentle ride to take in the beautiful views of Beaver Island.

And don’t forget to try BIP’s new Vietnamese restaurant: reviews are raving, the best Pho King restaurant in the tri-state area!

The people here in Cordis look forward to what Beaver Island has in store for us next!
